INVITATION TO JOIN A UKTI-SUPPORTED BRITISH
TRADE MISSION TO NORTHERN IRAQ 2 - 7 November 2008
Following a very successful mission to Northern Iraq in October 2007, we
have been invited by the Kurdistan Regional Government to revisit the
region in November 2008. We can expect a warm welcome and meetings
with high level senior businessmen and government ministers as well as the
Chamber of Commerce. The trade mission will be led by the Association's
Director General, Michael Thomas.
Kurdistan is itself an important region for business development. On our
last visit we were able to conduct business without any difficulty. Kurdistan
should not be compared with the rest of Iraq. It is a region which remains
very much open for business. The FCO travel advice now distinguishes
between the Kurdistan region and the other parts of Iraq, reflecting its
relative stability, peace and security. The trade mission is being organised
with the assistance of the Kurdistan Regional Government and the British
Embassy in Amman, Jordan, who cover commercial activities on behalf of
the British Embassy in Baghdad. A full business briefing will be given to
mission members prior to departure and the Association believes that there
are genuine prospects for British business in developing this new market
which is currently dominated by the Turks.
This mission plans to visit Erbil and Sulaimaniah.
